Ordered the chicken alfredo mac and chili. Good value for the portions that you receive. Generous portions, freshly made and delicious. Fulfilled my mac craving

My husband and I LOVE this place. We get one calzone and one macaroni and share, which means we get the best of both worlds. I am gluten free and this place fills all my old cravings. Very happy that this place exists. Great menu full of all kinds of options, and inviting space and great food. What more could we ask for?

Excellent place to enjoy eating gluten free. When ever I need comfort food this is where I go. Calzones and Waffles were awesome.

I'm sad to say that I'm sorely disappointed as I was hoping for a great alternative to "pockets" and I was very let down. I'll start with the service. We had ordered a soup as well as we know fresh calzones can take some time to cook which is understood. However, after asking for it early the staff there was in some kind of power struggle and were ordering each other around/blaming each other for various things: no ticket, you fill the soup, where's the rolls...all while I was just standing in front of them. Awkward. The soup which was some kind of sausage vegetable was bland. I ordered the buffalo chicken calzone which was also just as bland. The buffalo sauce had no spiciness to it whatsoever and was almost nonexistent in the calzone so I asked for more which they did provide at no charge. The crust on the calzone was cooked well. The chicken was just super chewy and tough. Way overcooked or reheated in the microwave. Just a general disappointment. I also asked for their recommendation between their bread sticks or their sweet/salty chopped calzone bits such they recommended the latter. I had two pieces of the entire order. Also, no flavor and very bland. Odd, right? How can something called sweet and salty be bland? I'm not quite sure but they nailed it on the head. I hate to just try something once so I'll eventually come back in the case it was an off day or perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing for my tastes but at this time I had high expectations but a less than satisfying experience.

Came to,eat here on a Sunday afternoon. Was greeted warmly and served promptly. Enjoyed my calzone while listening to good music played at a tasteful level in the background. Restaurant was clean and well decorated. Glad I found this gem in Vernon Hills.

not a bad place to grab a quick calzone and some mac and cheese...... the sausage and peppers calzone is pretty good and the lasagna mac and cheese is good too.... the prices are kinda high which is the bad thing about this place, we would be coming here more often but the prices turn us away from here..... we go to portillos alot for the value

I am sorry, but after my second visit; I am not sure I will be making a return. The calzones are large and for $12 they should be; as that is basically the cost of a decent size pizza. The taste was nothing special and there was virtually no sauce inside the calzone. Actually there wasn't much inside the calzone but cheese. We had the beef and philly cheesesteak calzones and both lacked any decent portion of beef and veggies(on the cheesesteak). Basically it was a greasy cheese filled dough pocket. Service was ok, but place just before 1pm on a weekday only had a few patrons. I wish them the best of luck, but seems they are cutting corners to make $. Maybe part of that is to offset lack of volume, but in either case: if they put about 50 cents worth of beef in each one we ordered; it would have been more a satisfying experience. The place has TVs and service was pretty good. The cashier said that they are offering a small calzone as a special for $6(reg price $7.99), which was not on the board.

The gluten free options here are wonderful! I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the gluten free calzone dough as it wasn't too dry or cardboard tasting like many other gluten free products. I actually prefer the gluten free noodles to the regular ones as they are that good and you can't tell the difference. Very friendly staff as well. I highly recommend the four cheese mac and cheese and the meat lover's calzone. I'm so lucky there is actually a gluten free place like this around with food that isn't just passable, but delicious!

I found this place at Groupon, and I went there several times in the morning for waffles and in the afternoons. Their portions are huge, which some may like. Their sauces and breads are hand-made. The price is amazing compared to the portion served. I know that everything sounds awesome, but based on my personal taste, the food is okay; it's not extremely delicious or anything though. Also, as everyone would know, the food is very unhealthy. However, all of their pizzas are amazing!

  • Daniel B.

Holy crap. These portions are huge. Like "how is it possible to eat this much" huge. But you can. And you probably will. Because it is THAT good. Sidenote: Is Ben Wyatt in charge of this place? Everything here is delicious. Our family ordered 3 calzones and 2 different macaronis and they were all amazing. It's also an incredible deal, as it doesn't cost that much for a smaller portion calzone, which is plenty for 1 person. Great addition to Vernon Hills, and I cant wait to try it again!

Had a Groupon for this place and sounded like a good concept, so I thought, "why not?". Ordered the Mac and cheese with mushrooms. The Mac and cheese came out quickly, good portion size, but came across 2 hairs in the mac and cheese! Not very appetizing! They gave me a replacement but I had lost my appetite by then. Wife ordered blackened chicken and she took one bite of it and said it tasted sour and spoiled! They gave her a new entree, but we lost faith in the product after having these 2 issues.

Had a great meal here last week for lunch. Ordered the snacker special, "mini" calzone and "mini" macaroni... There was nothing mini about the portion size and it was priced great for lunch time. I was stuffed but kept eating because it was so good! I'll be back again soon for a repeat. Lots of different flavors to keep you coming back for more. I would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a relatively quick Italian option.

Still found myself here another time, and tried the grilled Italian beef again. Awesome. Owner responded to my wifi concerns and gave out the password: macaroni1

I absolutely love their mac & cheese dishes, and the value is great -- you can even get two meals out of the small size. For something a little different, though, make sure to stop in on a weekend morning to try the waffle bar. My maple sausage waffle was perfect, and the breakfast potatoes were a nice complement. On his own initiative, the chef made my two-year old a waffle at no extra charge -- just because he had some spare batter! Little touches of good customer service will always make me want to come back. We were there around 9:45, and it wasn't too busy. I think it will get busier in the morning when word gets out!

It's a good thing that I live an hour away from here or I would gain about 50 pounds. I was headed to a Blackhawks player signing at the nearby mall and decided to check Groupon for any food deals and found one for here. The restaurant's specialty is, obviously, calzones and mac and cheeses. They also do soups, salads, sandwiches, and flatbread pizzas, but I figured I would stick to the main stuff. I ordered a calzone with sausage, mozzarella, white cheddar, mushrooms, and green peppers and a large buffalo chicken mac and cheese. The setup is cool. You can watch them prepare your calzone right in front of you, then it goes on a conveyor oven. After it's done there, it goes into the brick oven for about a minute to finish it off. I have to say both items were delicious. The buffalo chicken mac and cheese flavors mixed well. I only ate some of the mac and cheese and took it back home and even after the hour drive, it was still great. My daughter and I finished it off the next day. The calzone was great from the crust to the amount of ingredients. Since I had the groupon I got the large, and there was plenty left to take back home also. I really wish we had places like this closer to home. It's comfort food made to order, which raises it a few notches higher than your standard pizza/sub place. I will definitely go out of my way to come here again if I'm nearby.

High expectations based on yelp reviews and the concept...but it doesn't deliver.. at all...... The choices seem great, build your own, pick 2 TWO cheese AND a cheese sauce!! Is this cheese heaven? Nope. Sorry. It's, "pass the salt....and the sriracha...and the pepper....how come this doesn't taste like anything??" We had a large mac and cheese as follows: 2 cheeses: mozz and white cheddar Cheese sauce: cheddar Meat: turkey bacon 2 veggies: onion and tomato So the onion is red onion with no cook on it, so to speak. Raw and very present, so you best like onion! Tomato is not diced up through out, its a few stewed cherry tomatoes throughout. Somehow the cheese sauce tastes bland and unidentifiable. Calzone: Philly Cheese steak with alfredo instead of marinara. Big mistake....shoulda stuck with a "regular" sausage and pepperoni or somethin...not tasty but there is a bit pf potential there it seems with the bread being pretty good. Will not be back....and we had the Groupon!

I came to a pizza and macaroni place for a salad and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered i believe it was called the cobb salad, and my boyfriend had a chicken ranch wrap. Both the salad and the wrap were delicious, even though their specialty is more in he pizza realm. The place is small and cute, very clean and extremely friendly service. I am a local so I will be returning.

My visit here was an alright experience for me. Between the soups, salads, macaroni, calzones, flatbreads, and appetizers, there are a lot of different choices of dishes to try here. The food comes out very hot and fresh and the textures of all the dishes were good. The combos available also make it easier to try more dishes in one meal. However, the flavors were too light for me and it was difficult to clearly distinguish different items from each other (as the variations seemed to only be in 1 or 2 ingredients between similar items on the menu).

This place is a tad on the hit or miss side, but I generally think they are great option for Calzones, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They've screwed up a few orders. There are not many other options around for calzones, so I'll take what their serving.

This place was solid. I am a huge fan of Calzones and these are some of the best I have had. We got 2 large calzones and a side for 3 people and it was just the right amount. Too bad they were out of the loaded nachos that we initially wanted, our back up side was the mushrooms which ok.

Sooo many choices!! I took the suggestion of fellow yelpers and went with the cheeseburger calzone~ Delish!! :) but not a big fan of the buffalo chicken macaroni... The employees are very Friendly and helpful Will return to try other things on the menu!

Decided to change up the lunch routine and check this place out. Friendly staff and had a nice looking interior. I ordered the Snacker Combo, with the Cheeseburger Calzone and the Broccoli, Cheddar Bacon Mac and Cheese, to go. Wait time was a little long, but this isn't fast food so thats ok... So first up, the Calzone... The Calzone literally tasted of nothing but cheese. It's not that it was bad, it's just that it wasn't much of anything at all. The small amount of 'burger' in there appeared to be unseasoned ground beef. Not evocative of a Cheeseburger at all. 0/10 Next up, the Mac and Cheese. As someone who does not love Mac and Cheese all that much, I did find this one to be quite tasty. Lots of flavor and creaminess, a huge improvement over the Calzone. 7/10 Will I be back? Probably not. I would think a cheeseburger Calzone would be one of the easier ones to pull off and Mac and Cheese is not enough to pull me away from the other good food options in the area. TL;DR Friendly Staff, nice interior, Flavorless Calzone, decent Mac and Cheese. Large portions overall. Probably will not be going back again.

This is going to be my new favorite spot! My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday and we loved it! The atmosphere is really cool and laid back and the food is delicious! We both had calzones, I had pepperoni and my husband had the meat lovers. The outside was delicious and crispy and the cheese was nice and gooey on the inside. We also shared cheesy garlic bread which was also delicious! They also have a waffle bar sat/sun mornings which I am really looking forward to trying!!! This is an amazing little spot everyone needs to try!

I'm new to the area and my boyfriend came to visit for the weekend. We were looking for somewhere to get dinner and he happened upon this place on yelp. So pleasantly surprised!!! We split the chicken pesto calzone, he got the lobster mac and I got the 4 cheese mac. Portions were generous and everything was delicious. Food was made quickly and staff was incredibly friendly. I will definitely be back in the future and predict he will be requesting we come here every time he visits.

We've waited a while to try this place and the good reviews just kept coming. We showed up Saturday March 7th about 6:30 and mob of people showed up before us. Not knowing what to expect we figured out what we wanted, found a table and one of us stood in line to order. The girl at the counter breezed through the people waiting and was very helpful and our order was placed within 5-10 minutes. I would definitely recommend the snacker combo with the mini calzone and mini mac because it is plenty to eat. We had a meat lovers, philly cheesesteak and buffalo chicken calzone and they were all great. The mac n cheese were all very good. They use a spiral noodle which I thought was a little heavy but I will definitely be back. Once they caught up, the owner came out to apologize for the delay and make sure everything was good. Very impressed!

The combo of mac and cheese or pizza crust (very normal "base" for the most unadventurous eaters) plus any toppings you can imagine (variable craziness for the gastronomically intrepid) satisfied everyone in our lunch group. Came back a second time with tween daughter, who also declared this place a winner. Can't imagine anyone who wouldn't like this place.

Went here with a groupon yesterday, never having eaten a calzone before! Basically it was really good. I got the "snacker" which is a mini calzone and mini Mac and cheese with drink. I ignorantly worried if it would be enough food. I had the chicken pesto calzone and the three or four cheese Mac and cheese. It took awhile for the food to come out, but that might just be the time it takes to make a calzone. The food looked great, came with a type of marinara dipping sauce and tasted very good. It was also very heavy and greasy, which I guess comes with the territory. Pro: great food, fairly priced, big portions and cute decor Con: location, amount of grease, time it takes to make food I would for sure go again.

We heard great things, placed an order online on my phone. Ordered "Sausage & Pep Calz (Lg)" which I assumed was sausage and pepperoni. We also ordered a blacken chicken wrap. Picked it the order and the calzone was sausage and green peppers. Unfortunately, I hate green peppers. I called the store, and they essentially said that I should have read the webpage better. To bad, the calzone looks good and the wrap was perfect. ----------------- Raised my review just because the wrap was great, and I don't like knocking a small business.

Love this little place! I had the snacker, which is a "mini" calzone and a "mini" macaroni of your choice for $8.99. The portions were huge, and it was well worth the price! It took me awhile to decide what I wanted because there were so many choices, and I love love love mac and cheese. I decided to try the Mediterranean mac and cheese and the Mac Daddy calzone. Both were delicious! The cashier was a bit stand-offish, didn't even greet me when I walked in, but the manager (I think maybe the owner?) was totally attentive and made up for it. You can tell that he really cares about I'm surprised there weren't more people there! I know I'll definitely be returning. So grateful a place like this exists so close to my house!

The idea of calzones AND macaroni together in one specialty restaurant is pretty bomb! The food itself wasn't that impressive unfortunately. When we arrived we had to wait in a short line to order. I had a large meat lovers calzone to split with my sister and she ordered the lobster mac n cheese. My calzone was decent size but it just didn't have the wow factor. It had beef, pepperoni, sausage, bacon and mozzarella and came with a side of marinara. The calzone was decent but nothing special. The same goes for the lobster mac. It was mostly just cheese and pasta with very few chopped up pieces of lobster. I would have to try a different past next time before I give a fair verdict on it!

Definitely, definitely come here if you: a) want comfort food b) love cheese and/or are willing to take Lactaid for your love of cheese and/or will forego taking Lactaid even if you really need it for your love of cheese c) want a homemade calzone! Where else can you get this?? d) like choices... a lot of choices. I loved my chicken pesto calzone! It was ooey, gooey, meaty, flavorful, and piping hot! My friend's mushroom mac 'n cheese was a hit, though the lobster mac 'n cheese could have used more lobster. Note: at this place, it's place-your-order-and-pay-first style. In the meantime, you can grab a table!

We got the lobster mac and cheese and were unimpressed. It was a large portion but the cheese was separating and was pretty greasy. Otherwise it was pretty tasty but I probably would get something else.

My entire office is seriously obsessed with this place. The snacker is perfect if you want the best of both worlds when it comes to the calzones and macaroni. Service is always really friendly. And I finally went twice in one week so I was able to try the soup and salad special (cause what can I say, I lack the willpower to turn down the calzones and mac & cheese otherwise). I've had both the lobster bisque and the mushroom soup. While they're both tasty, I will admit they seem to be pureed and just a touch watery?liquidy? I like a little substance to my soups. Some bits of lobster in the bisque, or slices of mushrooms would be preferred, but I'd still order either of them again. And heads up, they deliver!

  • Michele B.

Truly decadent. They make macaroni with just about any cheese and so many varieties of add ons (bacon, lobster, spinach, etc. The Calzone are fired right there in their pizza oven and are more than adequate. They are pretty much what they say Calzone and Macaroni so if you are looking for a burger keep going, but if you love mac n'cheese this is your place. Service could be a bit better, sometimes you are standing there waiting for someone to come out from the back room before they know you are there, but there are so many choices to make you almost don't notice.

I'm really quite in love with this place. The food is consistently great and really reasonably priced. Salads, calzones, Mac, soups all good. Tons of choices! Recently discovered the soup salad and bread sticks combo... delish and filling for only 6 bucks. Cheap kids meals that are fresh and maybe not super healthy but not processed junk either. They've switched to plates which was a big upgrade because the paper lined baskets were hard to cut into your calzone on. Please get a couple booster seats. My only complaint is they are getting popular so it was busy and we had to sit at a tall table so we couldn't use a high chair for our toddler. Booster seat would have helped!

Very expensive. Had two kids Mac n cheese, two calzones and a salad. Bill was 49.78. That is simply too expensive as less to eat at full service restaurant with a waiter. Food was good and staff was very friendly. Will not be back as price was double what bill should have been for a Sabarro's or Potbelly's style restaurant.

When my boyfriend told me about this place, I practically started drooling just imagining it. Ultimately, it was a big deal because they have gluten free calzones & macaroni. My boyfriend has to eat gluten free, so it was a major plus for him (and me!) I tried the create your own mac with spinach, bacon, parmesan and I forget what else, but it was so delicious. I ordered it gluten free (although it doesn't have to be) because I was curious and it actually tastes almost exactly like regular macaroni noodles. I love the tons of combinations you can make with the mac. I also really want to try a calzone. Hopefully it's stuffed with mostly cheese because most of the calzones I've had barely have any filling except air. They also participate in belly, so sign up & get points if you're a frequent flier (free stuff!) Decor of the place is nice, cute & cozy, too. Can't wait to go back

I had the large Greek salad which was small. The dressing tasted....off. My daughter had the grilled cheese and said it was average at best. My son ordered the kids cheese pizza which was 40% crust, meaning they didn't put sauce and toppings to the edge. We won't go back.

The most amazing place on the planet. Delicious! Hot and fresh! Cheese cheese cheese! Get the snacker because it is the best of both worlds---small calzone and small macaroni. The food is so rich and cheesey don't worry about the small being enough food.

I'm so happy I tried this place out! Decor, staff, and food are spot on. Don't be worried about the 'snacker' portion - wow, plenty of food!! My friend had the gluten free calzone and Mac and said it was totally worth it. I will definitely return. Great prices!

I ordered the cheeseburger macaroni, and my sister ordered the chicken Alfredo macaroni. Although I was skeptical initially, delicious is an understatement. The texture was great, and my sister loved the creamy white sauce. I thought that the noodles were maybe a tad bland, but the ground beef and cheddar cheese made my mouth tingle with excitement. The atmosphere was electric, and it instantly brought me back to my college days. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I'll definitely be back

I work for a large corporation down the road from C&M and I order catering for large groups of people quite often. I continue to choose them for their value and quality of food. They have always proven to be vey kind, helpful and punctual. I receive nothing, but positive comments about the quality of their food and their service. Thank you C&M for always taking the time to make it right and for such great service!

This place has great potential - the concept of endless Calzone and Macaroni combinations is a great one. However, I think they over-charge and under-deliver. I've tried this place 2 times. The first time, I had a "build your own calzone" with chicken, pesto and goat-cheese. Due to some dietary restrictions I had at the time that would not allow me to enjoy cow products, I was super happy to see I could create an option that was suitable. However, I was disappointed to find that the chicken was not freshly "grilled" but rather, cooked previously and re-heated for my meal. None the less - this was not something I would normally order had my situation not mandated it, so I decided to give it a second try. The second time, I ordered just a plain pepperoni calzone. It's made to order - so expect a little bit of a wait (not a complaint in my book - made to order is always best - just a heads-up in case you're in the mood for "fast food.") The end product came out looking great - nicely toasted, steaming hot cheese oozing out of it - big wide slits cut across the top. While I liked the presentation - the slits on top allowed me to see the contents inside and I was seriously disappointed to see a TON of cheese and only 8 pieces of pepperoni. (Yes! I counted them because they looked so sparse.) The food was good. (Except for the strange butter/parsley sauce they served on the side - not sure what that is for?!?) But, for $12 - I was expecting a little bit more than bread and cheese. After 2 strikes ... probably won't be back. Darn. I was really looking forward to this place.

I've been to Calzone and Macaroni Co. a few times now with my family and we will continue to return for great food in generous portions at reasonable prices. I find the decoration and atmosphere to be very nice while being very family friendly. With macaroni and cheese as part of the name, you'd better be family friendly though! :) I've had a couple different calzones and most recently a soup, salad, and breadsticks combo that was almost more food than I could eat for only $5! The lobster bisque is especially delicious. Bottom line, give the place a try and you'll be back again and again.

Ate here for the first time today. It was really good. My wife is hard to please when trying new places and she really enjoyed her calzone. I got an Italian calzone and a Mediterranean macaroni and they were both really tasty. People on here talking about pass the sriracha? pffft yelp snobs. 10/10 will eat here again.

I was so disappointed in our last trip to Calzone & Macaroni Co. We went there specifically because they have Gluten Free options. They even advertise that have upgraded their gluten free packaging. We went in on Saturday night and my husband placed his order for Gluten Free flat bread and the woman at the register simply stated they didn't have any gluten free dough. We looked really confused because they have signs all over advertising Gluten Free. We were told that we need to come in earlier in the week or earlier in the day to increase the odds that they will have Gluten Free. We left (obviously without dinner) and both agreed that we won't be taking the chance of going back again. Word of caution - if you are Gluten Free, this may not be the best option as they don't always have the heavily advertised options.

So this place has been on my "to eat" list since it came out. It has a good overall rating, but there was nothing super exciting about it. I thought it was going to be just another Italian style fast food/ café. I was so wrong. This place literally revolves around gourmet Macaroni and Cheese and Calzone. Other than those two dishes there isn't much else to the menu. The menu was so vast in Macaroni and Cheese options, or you could make your own. I am a huge fan of Mac and Cheese. If I see it on a menu, I have to order it. However, here I was overwhelmed. So many to choose from. I put the menu down and limited my choices to the 3 daily macaroni and cheese specials. From there I narrowed it down to a caramelized onion and goat cheese version. Thank goodness I got a small, because I was barely able to down half of it. I savored what I could and then took the other half home for a midnight snack :) I also split a small chopped salad with two other people. I was impressed by the salad, it had a ton of ingredients and was super fresh. The employees were super friendly and the restaurant was very clean with an open kitchen. My only issue is that they should censor the music to make it more family friendly. I definitely heard and "F-bomb" during my lunch. I cannot wait to go back for more macaroni and cheese! The calzones looked amazing as well. And again they do not skimp on the sizes!

I'm sure I'll be back for a calzone, but as for the soup and mac&cheese, I think I'll pass. My bf and I had the Italian calzone, and I thought it was great. When getting a calzone, I always start with a forkful from the doughy corner--a good calzone will taste good at the corner, and a bad one will taste like burnt dough...this was a mighty good calzone. My bf said that he got a raw onion in his half, but mine were ok (and at least sweet onions). The wild mushroom soup was bland, and there was a problem with the to-go packaging, because when I got home, the top soup cup had crashed through into the bottom cup and the second soup was everywhere in the baggie they'd packed it in. It really needed some salt at least, and was a little on the watery side instead of on the creamy side. The mac&cheese we ordered was also of the wild mushroom variety. I know it helps with the speed of service, but pre-prepared mac that just has the extra ingredients thrown on top and then another layer of cheese melted on top is just not as tasty as mac done right with the ingredients heated and mixed in...the flavor of the mushrooms and cheeses came in separate chunks instead of ever mixing together like they should. I'll be back again for a great calzone and the prices and specials are reasonable. I hope they can increase the quality of their mac so I can appreciate it in the future.

Great place to go for lunch. The snacker combo is great for a normal meal, or a large pasta dish is great to stuff yourself full plus more to take home!

Let me preface this review by saying right off the bat that I'm reviewing this strictly as a gluten-free diner. Upon entry, I was stoked to find out this place offered not only gluten free dough for their calzones, but also gluten free pasta for all of their macaroni dishes. While this is good, I think the gluten intolerant still need to be extra cautious when placing their orders as I'm positive that many of their sauces and such likely are not gluten free. We went on a Saturday night and it was super busy. I must say that after seeing all of the beautiful calzones coming out of the oven, I was very excited. Then, my brother and I received ours. The excitement stopped... the gluten free version is nothing like the awesomeness that I saw coming out for the regular diners without dietary restrictions. The dough was your standard run of the mill gf dough with a bit of a dry textured grit with a very strange after taste. I'm giving three stars because the stuff on the inside was pretty good. I'll probably go back and try one of their macaroni dishes, but I don't know that I'll rush back for a gluten-free calzone. One bit of advice: if you're in a hurry and this place looks busy, reconsider for a time when you have a few extra minutes to spare. The line is slow moving due to the complexity of some of the orders.

I was excited to try the new joint in town especially after receiving a 15% off coupon in the mail. The menu looked good. I mean, who doesn't like macaroni? It's cheesy yummy goodness. My boyfriend raves about calzones and theirs looked good. So, we placed an order for pick up on a Saturday evening for some dinner after spending the day cleaning. We tried the chopped salad, lobster bisque soup, Mediterranean macaroni and the Italian Calzone. Overall, the food was just OK and nothing wowed us. The chopped salad was one of the best things I tried. I liked that it had large cubes of turkey bacon. You don't normally see turkey bacon in a chopped salad so I appreciated the attempt to make it a little healthier. Other than that, it was just like any other chopped salad I have eaten. The lobster bisque soup tasted bland. It could have used more chunks of lobster. Also, I'm not sure if they use tomato in their bisque. If so, it needed more of it. The Mediterranean macaroni was another miss for me. It came with white cheddar, turkey bacon, spinach and goat cheese. The goat cheese and white cheddar flavors didn't work for me. The sharpness of the white cheddar and the tang of the goat cheese mixed with the salty bacon didn't work for me. I did like the style of the noodle since they were large. The calzone was good and I would eat that again. It came with mozzarella, onions, pepperoni and mushrooms. All those flavors worked well together. I enjoyed dipping it into the marinara sauce that came along with it. Bottom line, pricey for just average tasting food even with the 15% off coupon. I may go back to try another type of macaroni and I'd get the calzone again, but I'm not rushing back any time soon.

I was so excited to try this place because of the gluten free offerings. I was sadly disappointed. I had the small Italian gluten free calzone and the Greek salad. While the salad was good and the dressing was tasty, the calzone was not. The dough was tasteless and while overdone on the outside, it as still raw on the inside. Because it was so hard, it was tough to cut through the calzone to get forkable pieces to dip in the sauce. Ultimately it was very hard to eat and not very tasty. The marinara sauce was the tastiest part. My husband had the turkey abaca do wrap and said "it was tasteless." For $26 I could go to other establishments that have far tastier and appealing food.

First time lunch. Overall, rated good. Strip mall setting. Music is a bit too loud. Courteous service. I had the snacked with a sausage and peppers calzone and lasagna macaroni. Calzone was very good but found the peppers only on one half of it and all green peppers too. Macaroni was good but a bit watery. Ice tea is weak. Would like to see it stronger. It was busy so that tells me to try again.

Love this locally owned restaurant. A hidden gem in a strip mall, but the food is far from food court quality. Crafty Mac and cheese combos are delicious and a perfect comfort food. The calzones are huge and tasty and baked to perfection! The soup is also a fave, try the wild mushroom for creamy goodness! Cozy atmosphere. Always clean and the employees are super friendly and happy. I hope they stick around for a long time!

This place is comfort food heaven! I took my 3-year old daughter out for a lunch date and wanted to try something that wasn't fast food. I figured she would enjoy this--I think I enjoyed it even more. First, the girl taking the orders was one of the friendliest restaurant employees I've ever encountered. The decor was cute and friendly. The menu was huge; much more than I thought it would be. Definitely some grown-up macaroni choices. The portions were LARGE and the food was good and fresh. I liked that the macaroni had that burnt-cheese crust on the top and edges (the best part of baked homemade mac and cheese in my opinion). We'll definitely be coming back to sample the calzones.

Me and my coworkers came after hearing about the 10% off deal by checking in to yelp. My coworkers ordered the Philly cheesesteak calzone and the meat lover calzone and I got the broccoli, mushroom and sausage Mac n cheese. While I wasn't all that impressed with the Mac n cheese. My coworker that ordered Philly cheesesteak fell in love with the calzone and demanded to go back the next day. This time we ordered: Italian beef calzone, meat lover calzone (same person) and salad/soup/breakstick combo. After this meal, we've decided to make this our regular Wednesday lunch spot. Yea... The coworker that ordered meat lover calzone went down the same path as the other coworker. The best thing is, we didn't even need the 10% discount because the Wednesday deal is already a great deal.

Our first visit and the food was great. We tried the "Snacker". It's a small calzone and a small oven-baked mac and cheese. Tons of choices for each and way more food than a snack. Will definitely come back.

SO good! I had the lobster mac, and wow, was it delicious! My husband had the snacker, which was a small calzone and small mac; he chose the cheeseburger mac and the buffalo chicken calzone. We also ordered the sweet and salty bits as a starter. It was all absolutely delicious! The portions are generous; we have enough for dinner tonight. The sauce is creamy and the pasta is perfectly cooked. I would recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be back! :)

Been there 3 times now. I'm gluten free, so it's nice to have so many choices for traditionally non-gluten free foods. Calzones - tasty. Flatbreads - garlic and goat cheese was crispy and fantastic. Macaroni and cheese - so many choices. Even if I wasn't gluten free, I'd find this place great. It's easy to say they only make 5 things, salads, calzones, flatbreads, mac/cheese, and soup. But the variety of toppings for each item (save for the soup) makes the combinations endless. It's a fast-casual place, order at the counter then the food comes. Overall a pleasant experience with tasty food.

Boyfriend and I have been here a few times now since it is right around the corner from our apartment. The place is small, but nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly, which seems harder and harder to find these days. :) The options seem endless here. They serve calzones, macaroni & cheese (as their name states), but they also have flatbreads, wraps, soups, and salads. My boyfriend absolutely raves about the calzones. He has tried the sausage and pepper calzone, which is served with a side of marinara and he tried the cheeseburger calzone, which is served with a side of cheese sauce. I have tried the four cheese macaroni and the cheeseburger macaroni. The crust is crispy on the calzones, which is key I think. The fillings are fresh. The only criticism I have is that the cheeseburger calzone and macaroni were pretty greasy. I would suggest maybe they try a lower fat ground beef or drain it more thoroughly. Otherwise, we have loved everything we have tried so far. You can even customize your own if you don't find a menu option to your liking! You come in, order, get a number for your order, and grab it t the other end of the counter when it's finished. They also have lids and bags to take your leftovers home if you don't finish it there. I like that I don't have to wait on anyone else to bring it to me. I didn't notice labels for sizes (they have kid sized, small, and large) and the top shelf was pretty high up for me to reach, but that's a small complaint really. They also serve Diet Dr. Pepper, which makes them a-ok in my book!

Let's just say after going to this place over 15 times we are done, the prices are crazy $14 for a small lobster mac & cheese all they do is pour some of the lobster bisque on top-no lobster in it what so ever ( how much is the large $20) $40 for a family of three(one kid's meal $4.99) and that was with no drinks, the ceaser salad is alot smaller than before, this time i got the blackened chicken wrap 9 pieces of little chicken all in the middle of the sandwich(nice trick) the rest lettuce--and clean your tables your customers should not have to ask for a clean table

Surprising really good. I loved the decor inside. Very clean (even the bathroom!). Nice tables & chairs. Food came in nice containers. Staff was nice. Deals on different days. Decent size meals. And most importantly the food was good!!! We will go back

The food was good, but more a bit overpriced in my opinion. My cheeseburger calzone was good, but greasy. Not the sort of thing I could take home to reheat later on. Portion sizes are generous and the staff is friendly. I defiantly want to go back to try other dishes.

Finally! I have been going to Trinity International University for 2 years now and coming from California I was use to good food and the foodie scene surrounding me (I'd consider myself a semi-foodie). I've been searching for a place that not many of my friends knew about but one that I has thought was so good that I would want to come back! Now, finally, the wait is over! Calzone and Macaroni Co. is just that place! This place feels hip, but in a way that reminds of an older joint that's been around for awhile. It's got that family feeling while at the same time feels like a place that I could go to for the stereotypical late night college snack. And that's exactly what I did! After some debating whether to go with the Macaroni or a Calzone I decided to go with the small Meat Lovers Calzone. I loved it! It was filling as a snack and the meat tasted super fresh like it hadn't just been sitting in some freezer waiting to be reheated. The cooked the dough perfectly, and the sauces. Oh man, the marina sauce and the olive oil with, as far as I can tell som basil and garlic, made the calzone that much more the better! Looking at their menu they seemed to really only do two things, Macaroni and Calzones. If options is something for you, fear not. While they choose to focus on doing a couple things really well they have so many creative options I was astounded! Lobster Macaroni and Cheese? Mac and Cheese Calzone? Bruschetta Calzone? Mediterranean Mac? And with a build your own options the choices are absolutely limitless! I also noticed that they had some specials that I'm sure a poor college student could take advantage of! The prices seemed to be reasonable enough for homemade calzones and macaroni! Lastly if you're a gluten free eater this place also has a gluten free option! I will definitely be coming back here with all of my friends!

I came here today for a super early dinner at 4:00 pm (I have weird eating schedules and get hungry at random times), so the place was not crowded at all. I ordered a small broccoli cheddar bacon macaroni and cheese, my friend ordered a small chicken Alfredo macaroni and cheese, and we shared a small Caesar salad. "Small" is a pretty misleading name for the portion size of what "small" was at this place. Our salad was very delicious and well tossed, but we could not finish our macaroni and cheese. But everything was super delicious nonetheless! I loved how their macaroni is baked and the pasta used are huge swirly pieces of pasta, not like regular elbow macaroni. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my experience here, and I'll probably come here more often. Maybe get a kid's portion size rather than small since I could not finish the small today. I'll definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends.

The snacker with a salad combo is $10.99 and is a great combination and a pretty big portion. There are quite a few choices for the unique macaronis and a great calzone cooked in a 600 degree brick oven in just a few minutes. This place is definitely worth a try.

I'm always looking to try new speciality restaurants so I was excited to try Calzone and Macaroni, even though it was difficult passing Pita Inn to get there. The atmosphere inside is contemporary and open with a big menu and open kitchen. The dubstep playing was a little strange and out of place, and I'm even a huge EDM fan. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak calzone and regular macaroni. Both were made fresh and I received them much quicker than I thought I would. The calzone was okay, but overall pretty bland. Granted, I ordered something without a lot of ingredients, but I expected more all around. I've had this type of calzone at other restaurants and eat a lot of Italian Beef and felt it just didn't compete. They had a lot of other calzones on the menu so I'd be interested to come back and try something else. The macaroni was very good and used these crazy noodles, but was lacking in texture and could have been helped by breadcrumbs or something more on top. Prices were a tad high for a single item with no sides but it was nice having everything so custom and made right in front of you. I'll probably come back sometime and try something deeper into the menu and hopefully raise my score after I do.

Hubby and I have been here 3 times now and each time we have been so happy with service and food. For our first visit we brought my husband's parents, they were visiting from out of state, and everything we ordered that day was delicious!! We had lasagna mac and cheese, shrimp mac and cheese, cheeseburger calzone, chicken pesto calzone and the roasted tomato tortilla soup. The in-laws were amazed. We talked about that meal for days! My husband and I have been back two more times for the lasagna mac and cheese, cheeseburger calzone and italian calzone. The crust of the calzone is so crispy on the outside and has Parmesan cheese and herbs sprinkled on top. We will definitely be going back. Great new place for Mundelein/Vernon Hills.

DELICIOUS! I wish it was in a more convenient place but overall I loved it. I got a small chicken pesto calzone, and it was very satisfying. I can't wait to go back to try other calzones and the macaroni!

I've been a few times already and I haven't had anything I didn't love. The decor is nice and open and it's nice to watch your food prepared fresh. The make your own Calzones were cooked perfectly and more than enough for one person. The salads have always been fresh and perfectly balanced. Lastly the macaroni dishes are another favorite, we sampled several at our table and all were good. Next time in I will have to try some of their flatbreads and wraps too. Highly recommended!

I am absolutely in love with this place! This is a gold mine for people who need to eat gluten-free and miss favorites like calzones, pasta, and flatbread pizza. I work close by and try to limit myself to getting lunch here just twice a month. BUT I WANT TO EAT HERE EVERY DAY! There are many different choices on the menu and there are also seasonal offerings as well. They have a deal almost every day of the week (Tuesday is double Belly points!). The staff is friendly, the service is fantastic and the restaurant is clean, cozy and welcoming. My favorite so far has been the buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese. The calzones are excellent and the gluten free crust is perfect. The portion size is very generous - you definitely won't be leaving hungry!

Saw this company via Groupon, checked it out on Yelp and based on the reviews decided to give it a try. Overall, pleasant owner and the food was good. I had the calzone and was pleased. I would definitely recommend it for something out of the ordinary for fast casual dining.

Was there a few weeks back for lunch with coworkers. Had a big fly in my blackened chicken wrap. The waiter barely acknowledged this as a problem. Nobody came by to talk to me about it when I sent it back. 5 minutes go by and I still dont have anyone come back and talk to me. I asked for a manager. He made excuses how it was hot out and their doors were open. He told me they are making another sandwich. Who wants another sandwich after you get a fly in there. Manager could care less about the problem. Will never go back.

The place has fantastic cheeseburger calzones! I brought my coworkers here during lunch and they all loved the place. The place is always clean and the cooks work fast. I definitely enjoy the atmosphere and the food here. I will highly recommend this place to anyone that loves calzones or maccaroni.

I have never written a review before, but this place is worth it. First off, the staff was super friendly. The food was out quick and was delicious. I had the Mediterranean macaroni and my partner had the Italian beef calzone. I am not a huge mac & cheese fan, but he is. The fact that we both ordered something out of the ordinary because it sounded so good says a lot for the menu. For the past three days whenever he brings up lunch or dinner, I say "calzones and macaroni?" Needless to say, I cannot wait to eat there again. If you are looking for quick food that tastes really good, this is the place. Be aware, portions are large. I could barely finish a small macaroni for lunch.

We LOVE Calzone & Macaroni Co.! I'm a fan of the caesar salad and the 4-cheese macaroni; my husband is crazy about the calzones. They just have delicious food (especially this special cheese sauce that comes with the calzones -- so good!). We eat here often. All of the employees are friendly and helpful. Awesome local place. It's also great that they advertise locally by supporting high schools in the area. Go Wildcats!

Absolutely 5 plus stars for being original, creative, clean and a great value. This was my first visit to this little gem and I WILL be back. I was going for a late lunch and the Indian restaurant next door stops serving lunch at 2:15pm (odd, but ok) so I noticed this place and walked in. I was greeted immediately and the guy asked if this was my first time at the place? I replied yes and he offered me a detailed menu and told me about the special he would suggest for someone who was coming in for the first time, great!!! He asked if I preferred meat or vegetables, was able to suggest calzones --- wow, plenty of choices!! Now to choose a macaroni dish, again a plethora of choices! I had a bruschetta calzone with mushroom macaroni and it came with a drink and all for 8 bucks!! Food was made to order in front of me, they have a really cool oven. Awesome hip decor, progressive for Vernon Hills independent place and rare too. This place is really great! These folks have a passion for what they are doing; educated on their menu, fresh, clean, hot, great price, perfect service. I'll likely be back in the next week and with a group of friends. BTW, the place is totally remodeled and looks nothing like the middle eastern or Moroccan restaurant this this location was in the past. Give this place a try!

  • Karen H.

I wouldn't call it "health food" but that's not what we were there for. My daughter had the broccoli bacon mac and I got a philly cheesesteak calzone with an amazing garlic dipping sauce. We both ate half of our food and had the leftovers for breakfast this morning, it was just as good. The seating is kind of limited, we went around 1:00 on a Thursday and there was very little seating open. I wish I lived closer so I could bring it home.

  • Daniel S.

Liked some of the others, my wife and I tried this place with a groupon we got online. I had actually never had a calzone before, and was interested in trying one and my wife's gluten-free options are very limited. We ordered to go, so the service was your normal fast-food counter type service, friendly person taking orders and ringing people up. Food came out, and brought it home and it was pretty damn good! I would have given it 4 stars because I really liked it, but don't have any other calzone experience to compare it to. Now, my wife was raving about the gluten free crust and stated they deserved 6-stars for that kind of GF crust. So, we compromised on the 5. Now since this initial try-out of the store, we can't wait to go back! Only one thing I would recommend fixing is not charging $1-something for gluten-free TWICE if you get the snacker option since that can get kind of pricey for the gluten-free eaters out there.

First time I feel Yelp has let me down.. Was super excited to try this after reading ao many positive reviews. We ordered the buffalo chicken and cheeseburger mac and a Calzone. The Mac is just not very good ...It was a bit dry and just didn't seem to have enough gooeyness that a good baked mac should have... We landed up chucking it it the garbage. The Calzone was pretty good but nothing to make me want and come back. I just don't get the reviews on this one.

My husband is obsessed with this place and I like it a lot too. We have been here five or six times now. The build your own macaroni is awesome and I love that they have goat cheese as an option. My only complaint is that sometimes they let me substitute two extra veggies for the meat (I'm a vegetarian) and sometimes they don't or only let me substitute one, so the employees need to figure out the policy and stick to it. But the macaroni is delicious so we will continue coming back.

Simply delicious. Been here three times trying different dishes every time (four cheese macaroni, pesto chicken calzone and Italian calzone). All were great. I went to the calzone and macaroni company looking for a restaurant that I haven't visited yet in Vernon hills. There, dispute all of its fast food places and shopping centers I was looking for a quality restaurant, and I came along the calzone and macaroni company. When u see the pictures of there calzones they look as good as they taste. I got the meat lovers calzone looking for a meat hearty calzone and it fulfilled my choice. The best things about these calzones are the bread, the toppings (cheddar cheese, and herbs), and #1 the cheese inside the calzones. It's what u call legit cheese. The taste, the goeyness, and how u bit into every piece is just priceless, also how they load the garlic sauce on your calzone is like tipping a gas liner on the Gulf of Mexico, ( like having the BP oil spill on your sand which) it tastes great though, and if you're worried about how it's too greasy, who cares ! Just give it a break for one night and enjoy this freaking awesome calzone

Fantastic. I live nearby and saw people always walking in so tried it. I really loved the Bruschetta Calzone and the adult four mac and cheese. Have gone back a few times for different calzones. I for some reason like the small ones. Surprisingly really really awesome food. TOO BAD they do not make a chain out of this. Someone somewhere said the only thing missing is a grilled cheese which might be good. Definitely great food!!!

It's with a heavy heart that I have to update my review of Calzone & Macaroni Co. We came back again today for lunch (two weeks after our first visit). While the food is still fresh and delicious, we did not appreciate the pricing surprise and customer service this time. Like last time, we ordered 1 kid's meal (gluten-free) and 2 snacker boxes (1 gluten-free, 1 regular). The cashier didn't know how to ring that up, so she asked someone from the back who I assume is the assistant manager? Anyway, he came out and proceeded to charge $1.25 gluten-free surcharge for every single item that we ordered gluten-free - which meant 2 separate charges for items in 1 snacker box! $1.25 for the kid's calzone. $1.25 for the mini-calzone in the snacker box. Then another $1.25 for the mini-mac and cheese in the snacker box. After tax, that's another $4.00 in just surcharges alone. I asked why he was charging $1.25 surcharge for mini and kid sized items when it was the SAME charge for the large sized items. He explained that the restaurant pre-portions out the large sized gluten-free items, and then THROWS AWAY the rest to make the mini and kid sizes, so that's why it's the same charge no matter what size??? That seems quite ridiculous. Why not portion out the dough in half and charge half? Why not charge $1.25 and the split the kids and mini calzone dough if it's pre-portioned and we ordered both? Unfortunately, until they figure out how to stop passing along their wastefulness in excessive extra charges to the customer for gluten-free items, we probably will not return. I understand a minimal charge to offset the cost of gluten-free ingredients...in fact, many restaurants do so. HOWEVER, when it ends up costing nearly 30% more for the meal ($2.50 charge on $8.99), it's not acceptable. It's unfortunate because the food is very good, but in this economy, we just can't afford to spend $11.49 on a lunch special just because the restaurant decided that they have to throw away half of the food for no apparent reason. We ended up switching out the gluten-free snacker box for a salad instead due to the surcharges, which was unfortunate because my husband was looking forward to the calzone and macaroni. 1 star for excessive surcharges + 5 star for food = 3 stars overall.

I love this place! We've been there 4 times in the past 2 weeks and that's with restraining ourselves! I could seriously eat here every day. The ingredients are fresh and high quality, and the end results are awesome. My husband and I have enjoyed the 4 cheese and Mediterranean macaroni, the buffalo calzone, the wild mushroom soup, and the roasted tomato soup. We loved all of it! This place is casual and relaxed, and I love that you can get a quickly-cooked meal that is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly to my family and I, and you can tell the owner takes pride in this establishment and that they take the time and effort to put great ingredients into great food. I hope this place stays here forever!

First timers. Went there because of a Groupon. Food was great! We had the snack combo ( small calzone, small mac& cheese, & salad. An excellent value and also comes with a drink. We couldn't finish it all and took it home for lunch the next day. It still tasted great. We will be back ( I can hardly wait to try other variations )

Went there with a group of friends. It was a weeknight and around 6:30, so the place was understandably empty. I have never been there before and was interested it what it was all about. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I ordered the cheeseburger mac and cheese and, although it was hot on top, it was ice cold in the middle. Didn't have time to send it back, so i just ate the warm portions. Not my cup of tea.

We are remodeling our kitchen and have dined here many times during the process. Favorites include the sausage and peppers calzone and the 4 cheese macaroni. We also think the snacker pack is brilliant and a great value for the amount of food you get (and also the variety of food you get to try.). Kids meals are great....$3! Can't beat that. The staff had always been super friendly. We've only had two issues in all the time we've dined here--a kids' meal was left out twice when we did take-out (and didn't realize until we got home---yes, we should have checked ourselves when it happened a second time!), but after mentioning it to the staff the next visit, they were very accommodating and even gave us a gift certificate. We will be back again for sure!

We are from out of town and ate there based on the reviews. Excellent food and quick service. Hopefully we can hit it again before we leave town.

Absolutely wonderful. I built my own macaroni and calzone, and both were delicious. Probably the best macaroni I've ever had. The staff was very friendly and prepared my meal quickly. If the weather permits, eat outside at the tables. I sat there with a group of friends and it was very enjoyable. Only complaint is that a friend ordered the lobster mac and she wasn't a fan of the lobster chunks, which were a little undercooked. Other than that, everything was scrumptious. Will definitely recommend this place to other macaroni lovers.

I had the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese and it was really, really good... Nice flavor from the sauce, lots of pieces of chicken, and tasty Mac and cheese. My boys had cheeseburger mac and cheese. They said it was really good. My husband had the calzone which he said was good not great. He didn't like the spices on the top of the calzone. Overall a great new restaurant. We'll definitely go back.

I've been to this place three times in two weeks. I'm a Mac and cheese person, I try it all over the country. This might not be the "best Mac and cheese in the country" but its the best this side of Chicago. The build your own is a great way to customize to your liking. My 12 year old loves their calzone, and he always is amazed at what fresh ingredients they have. We recommend trying this place. 6 of us eat for about $60 so its very reasonable. The chef/owner has been there two of the three times we've been there. He sometimes interacts with the kids and seems genuinely surprised when they thank him for their meal.

My husband and I LOVE this place. We get one calzone and one macaroni and share, which means we get the best of both worlds. I am gluten free and this place fills all my old cravings. Very happy that this place exists. Great menu full of all kinds of options, and inviting space and great food. What more could we ask for?

    (4)
  • Daniel B.

  • Jerome R.

This place is a tad on the hit or miss side, but I generally think they are great option for Calzones, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They've screwed up a few orders. There are not many other options around for calzones, so I'll take what their serving.

  • Pavit A.

Really suprising good and fresh prepared food. Not particularly fast since they make everything fresh to order. But nice people giving great service and a very good diverse and interesting menu

Love love love this place. After having amazing calzones at Purdue I couldn't really find a place like it... Until now! Their gluten free calzones are my favorite! Great options and price! A must try if you ask me!

Had small build my own mac n cheese with cheddar, American, chicken, mushrooms spinach and cheddar cheese sauce. It was very delicious and half of it filled me up for lunch! Much better than Noodles &Co. I will be coming back often!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
